About us
St Mary’s Magdalene has a proud history of serving and loving its community ever since a church has present since the 12th century. At the very heart of the village next to our local church of England school we have worked hard to serve the community and bring them to a place where they can grow in faith to love and bless God and one another. We are welcoming to all and have a wide range of services and activities that cater to all walks of life and include those who are exploring faith all the way to those who are Christian seeking to go deeper in their faith.
We seek to comfort the challenge and challenge the comfortable and realise that much of the work we need to do is as much out of the building as in it. Hence we are keen to work with the wider parish to bless them and have a number weekly events both in and out of the church that meet people where they are at. We have an amazing team of people with a wide array of passions and experience to make Christ relevant, authentic and true in todays culture. Our beautiful church has a history of music with an lovely choir and hosting concerts both classical and modern. We are blessed by the visitors we receive visiting our grave yard to see Nick Drake, Mike Hailwood and Jack Hood.
In 2022 the back of the Church was transformed to an award-winning space. Creating a new flexible and accessible space for services, activities and events. We call this space The Halo as it is illuminated by a huge, bespoke, engraved halo light.
This space is now being used by the church for services, activities, concerts and events, and we are keen for it to be available for the local community.
With a focus on making our services accessible to all, we have changed the Sunday morning service start time to 9:30 am and we’ve added a new family service which takes place in The Halo – Breakfast Church (with breakfast from 9am) and it’s proving very popular!
